The federal price index for used household and office-goods moving rose 13.5% from June 2025 to June 2026, including a sharp increase during spring 2026. The June figure is preliminary and measures prices received by moving businesses—not the percentage that should be added to one household’s old estimate.

This Moveline price update separates the industry trend from the price of an actual move. First see what changed in the federal series, then compare three current Moveline route examples and refresh your own budget with today’s inventory, addresses, access, and service.

The 2026 industry trend in plain numbers

The Bureau of Labor Statistics producer price index series PCU484210484210 tracks prices received by businesses that move used household and office goods. It moved from 175.071 in June 2025 to 198.718 in June 2026. From January to June 2026, the increase was about 12.5%.

The sequence matters: the index was nearly flat from January through March, then climbed in April, May, and June. Preliminary values can be revised for several months, so this page should be refreshed when BLS finalizes the recent observations.

What the increase means for a household

The trend tells you that an estimate saved from 2025 may no longer describe the 2026 market. It supports getting current written prices instead of applying last year’s budget unchanged.

It does not tell you that every route rose 13.5%. A household price also responds to shipment size, mileage, city access, carrier capacity, move date, packing, storage, delivery terms, and optional services. Those factors can move an individual estimate more or less than the national business index.

Three current Moveline route examples

To put the trend beside household dollars, Moveline ran the same two-bedroom, full-service scenario on three distances for September 15, 2026. The examples are a current snapshot, not a time series and not evidence that one route rose by the BLS percentage.

The current price still belongs to the concrete move

Distance affects linehaul and fuel. Shipment volume or weight affects the truck space and handling work. Traffic, legal parking, building hours, stairs, elevators, carrying distance, and city loading rules affect crew time at the origin and destination.

A tight delivery request, short booking window, professional packing, storage, a shuttle truck, unusually heavy items, or difficult destination access can add service or cost. Put each known condition into the inventory and estimate request.

Refresh a moving budget in one afternoon

Moveline sees the moving market at unusual scale: its agent network is responsible for over one million U.S. moves a year. The network’s moving activity provides a broad view of how quickly capacity, access, and household details can make one price diverge from an industry average. Current move facts remain the best basis for a budget.

Use the Moveline moving calculator for a current route example, then read the added-cost guide before comparing estimates.

When this price update should change

Moveline should refresh the BLS table after the next scheduled release and revise any preliminary values that have changed. Households should refresh their own budget whenever the inventory, addresses, date, service level, building access, or delivery plan changes.

Angi’s consumer cost guide influenced this article’s answer-first organization and emphasis on concrete price factors. BLS supplies the trend; Moveline’s calculator supplies the household examples.
