There is no useful PODS price without a route and schedule
A PODS move is a chain of services: the empty container arrives, you load it, it is picked up, transported or stored, delivered to the destination, unloaded, and collected again. The price depends on the container size and count, addresses, distance, dates, season, storage location and duration, and the services available in those markets. A generic national range cannot describe that chain.
Request a personalized written quote and read it in chronological order. If a stage is missing or unclear, ask whether it is included, optional, unavailable, or charged later. Then add the work the household performs or buys separately, especially packing, loading, unloading, supplies, permits, and protection.
Choose size from the inventory, not a room label
PODS currently describes U.S. containers with nominal lengths of 8, 12, and 16 feet. Its FAQ says an 8-foot container may hold about one room, a 12-foot container about two to three rooms, and a 16-foot container about three to four rooms. Those are planning descriptions, not a guarantee. Large sectionals, garage contents, patio furniture, appliances, fragile items that cannot be stacked, and inefficiently shaped pieces can change the fit.
Availability also matters. PODS states that the 12-foot container is for local moving and storage, while available sizes and service vary by market and move. Build an item-level inventory, include storage and outdoor areas, and ask what happens financially and operationally if the recommended capacity is insufficient.
Confirm that both properties can accept the container
A quote does not create legal or physical placement. Check with the property owner, building, homeowners association, city, or parking authority as applicable. Ask about surface, slope, overhead clearance, street permits, fire access, loading zones, container duration, and the space the delivery equipment needs. Repeat the process at the destination.
PODS’ 2026 service information tells customers to keep a 16-foot-wide area and access path clear of snow and ice for service. The company also warns that an attempted service caused by the customer’s failure to provide compliant access can generate a fee. Site conditions differ, so use the placement instructions for the exact order rather than treating one measurement as a universal site plan.
Add the work that the container price does not perform
The container model removes long-distance driving from the household, but it does not automatically pack or load the belongings. Price boxes, cushioning, blankets, straps, dollies, disassembly, loading, and unloading. If hiring labor, confirm minimum hours, travel, equipment, stairs or carries, and whether the crew’s insurance and building documents satisfy the property.
Load for transport, not for a stationary storage room. Distribute weight, build stable sections, fill voids, and secure the load using the container’s tie-down points. Keep heavy goods low and do not press items against the roll-up door. Improper packing and normal shifting are excluded from PODS’ Contents Protection Option, according to the provider’s FAQ.
PODS prohibits hazardous, flammable, explosive, perishable, biological, radioactive, illegal, and various other items. Its current FAQ specifically includes products such as propane tanks, ammunition, many chemicals, fuel-containing equipment, and items with non-removable lithium batteries. It also recommends keeping medicines, identity records, currency, jewelry, heirlooms, and other irreplaceable or high-value property outside the container. Use the current rental agreement for the controlling list.
Read protection as a contract, not a comfort label
Do not assume homeowners or renters insurance covers the move or storage. Ask the insurer in writing about the property, locations, transit, exclusions, deductible, and claim process. PODS offers container-only and contents-protection options, but coverage, pricing, included amounts, and availability can vary by market and move.
The provider says Contents Protection generally values damaged items using depreciated value and excludes certain property and events. It must be selected before the first container delivery if the household wants to add or increase it. Read the addendum for the order and compare it with any existing insurance; the marketing name does not explain every exclusion.
Control rental months and changes
PODS rents containers by the month and says it does not prorate monthly charges. The container must be picked up before the next billing cycle to avoid another month. Put the billing date beside the planned destination delivery and empty pickup. A delayed closing, full elevator calendar, or slow unload can turn one extra day into another rental month.
The current cancellation policy allows no-cost cancellation when the customer contacts PODS by 4 p.m. local time at least three days before the first scheduled delivery. Later cancellation can trigger a fee, and after first delivery the delivery charge, first month’s rent, and applicable contents protection are nonrefundable. Changes and rescheduling can also affect fees or the quote. Confirm the policy attached to the actual order because terms can change.
